This is the first Bioshock game I've played and as with the first two the hype was through the roof so I decided to finally break down and give it a shot to see what I've been missing.
Off the bat the game reminded me of the lesser known series "No One Lives Forever" except BioShock Infinite had additional powers or vigors if you want to call them by their rightful name. It has the same type of leveling, weapons and gear upgrades so I was very comfortable with the game very quickly.
There's really nothing bad I can say about the game, it's just no where near as good as the hype or reviews have made it out to be. The story is far better than the actual game, so if you want to rate the game based on story-line, then okay, I'll concede that point.
However games should not be based on story, this isn't a movie or TV show after all and the story is just one component of the game. The actual game was nothing new in my opinion, doesn't push any graphical boundaries or introduce any new game features not see in other FPS.
As I played through the game the thought that kept running through my head was, "okay this is cool, but I can't wait until the game starts to get really good" except that part never came. There was nothing earth-shattering about BioShock Infinite's gameplay that can justify the hype its received over the last month. Maybe the original Bioshock was a game changer, I don't know since I never played it, but BioShock Infinite is certainly not.
My person review would be an 8 out of 10, slightly above average game due to its great story-line. If you disagree, then explain without using the storyline as the reason.
